Your Specific Responsibilities:

Performs complex technical and training duties in the development and use of plans to protect the public and environment during radiation accidents. The employee must use discretion and independent judgment in performing these job duties.

 

Duties include:

 

Coordinates radiological emergency response training performed by Environmental Radiation Control. Organizes purchases, creates, and maintains training aids such as videos, PowerPoint presentations, slides and other materials. Develops and presents radiological emergency response classes to staff and outside agency personnel as directed or approved by the supervisor. Develops and conducts classes for first responders and hospital emergency room personnel in radiological emergency response. Critiques drills and exercises in radiological emergency response. Prepares an annual report on training effectiveness and a quarterly report on training performed.

 

Participates in nuclear power plant exercises. Participates in hospital medical drills as required. Assists in the preparation of scenarios, critiques the performance of players, acts as a controller, or a player as directed.

 

Maintains calibration records on hand-held radiation detection instruments used for radiological emergency response.

 

Assists in the writing and review of standard operating procedures as directed.

 

Coordinates the annual emergency worker dosimeter program.

 

Conducts routine radio checks; assists in inventory; and restocking the mobile lab, sample preparation vehicle, field team trailer, and emergency kits.

 

Performs other duties as directed.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of radiation. Knowledge of the principles of radiation detection instruments and their use. Knowledge of personal computers, word processing software, spreadsheet software, and presentation graphics software. Ability to present and teach effectively.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent 4 years of experience in the area of chemistry, physics, health physics (radiation related) or nuclear medicine technology (or similar work experience).  Special consideration will be given to candidates with professional teaching experience.

 

Travel Time:  50-75%
