Pay :
$16.00 per hour 40 hours / week
Your Specific Responsibilities :
Conducts habitat restoration activities, including, but not limited to, site mapping, concept planning, interagency coordination, and coordinating restoration activities of volunteers and / or contractors.
Restoration activities may include marine debris removal. At present, much of this work is on island uplands.
Monitors and maintains existing restoration sites. Implements additional and / or remedial measures deemed necessary as project sites mature.
Keeps records, including spatial data, of site progress. Monitors habitats within the preserves. This may include in-house monitoring programs, as well as collaborative monitoring programs with other organizations.
Coordinates activities of volunteers of a variety of ages to accomplish the above, and other, field projects.
Assists the preserves manager with outreach activities targeted at public, private and interagency stakeholders. Assists the preserves manager with site inspections for regulatory review.
Assists the preserves manager in formulating recommendations for impact avoidance and minimization, mitigation and public interest components of the regulatory review process.
Tracks and successfully completes Coastal Zone Management Grant deliverables and submits required biannual reports. Assists with implementation of approved aquatic preserve management plans and implementation activity tracking.
Assists with program administrative operational duties, including, but not limited to, purchasing, vehicle / vessel maintenance and logs, field equipment maintenance and repair, coordination with various DEP departments, Timesheet submission, attendance at weekly staff meetings and monthly Friends of Tampa Bay Aquatic Preserves meetings.
Assists visiting researchers with field logistics, data collection, GIS mapping support and / or other aspects of conducting research within the preserves.
Other Job-Related Requirements :
Will need to become proficient and certified to trailer and operate boats, and to obtain Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) certifications to snorkel and operate kayaks.
Provide assistance in the event of an emergency including pre-storm preparation, post-storm clean-up and other assignments as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Ability to conduct sampling and other accurate field activities in adverse conditions, often from small boats or in the water.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate and execute multiple projects, often in collaboration with other agencies, contractors or volunteers.
- Must enjoy interacting with the public to effectively explain policies and projects of the program.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; utilize problem-solving techniques; work independently;
work cooperatively in a team setting.
- Must be able to swim.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50Ibs.
Minimum Qualifications :
Driver’s License
A bachelor’s degree in Natural Science from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications :
Basic First Aid, CPR, and AED training (can be obtained on job)
Small boat operation certification (can be obtained on job)
Knowledge of Florida’s coastal ecosystems and general ecological principles
Experience with ArcGIS.
