POSITION SUMMARY:

The Forensic Service Program Office seeks to fill a supervisor role with oversight of the Research and Development team. This position plays a vital role in the coordination of internal validations, performance assessments, method or material modifications, and the integration of new software and equipment, by employing principles and methods of project management. In this position, you will liaise with various internal and external stakeholders to manage ongoing and new validation projects, oversee timelines and deliverables, and ensure adherence to requirements and standards associated with laboratory policies and accreditation requirements. We are seeking an individual who can maintain structure and enforce deadlines while remaining flexible to changing project requirements. The ideal candidate will favor structure and organization, yet ensure appropriate change request processes are employed when warranted.

 

NOTE:  The incumbent for this position can be located at any Regional Operations Center. 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Using Project Management principles, methods, and tools for ensuring timely flow of validations and related projects across multiple disciplines;
  • Ensuring maintenance of documentation of forensic validation projects to include updating associated tools, timelines, and visual aids;
  • Engaging and updating project stakeholders, including assisting in gathering project performance metric data for grant performance monitoring reports; and
  • Overseing validation and project coordination members and liaising with a variety of internal stakeholders, including members and management within the lab and various program-related offices.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forensic science, criminalistics or in a physical or natural science; completion of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Crime Laboratory Analyst training program (or a comparable training program); and three years of professional experience in a crime laboratory analyst class (or equivalent class).
  2. Professional experience in one of the disciplines for which the position will supervise can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Experience as a Technical Leader or validation team member who has participated in the hands-on aspects of validations and performance checks within respective discipline;
  • Demonstrated the ability to manage and prioritize tasks as evidenced by participation in work teams, training committees, validation projects, or similar;
  • Robust knowledge of FDLE laboratory accreditation and policies;
  • Understanding of various Project Management principles and methods;
  • Strong computer skills and ability to incorporate information and documentation into various software tools available for Project Management (e.g. MS Project);
  • Effective written and verbal skills for communications across various genre;
  • Ability to foster professional relationships with stakeholders external to Forensics;
  • Strong people skills to liaise with internal customers, including Technical Leaders, Supervisors, and Chiefs to foster successful project design and implementation; and
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory grant awards and department purchasing processes.

BASE SALARY:

  • $75,000.00

 

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
