This is an Open Competitive Career Service position with the Department of Health in Lee County.

 

This is a Senior Community Health Nurse position under the supervision of the Nursing Program Specialist at a local county health department. The incumbent provides public health nursing services for clients in DOH-Lee clinics.  This position is classified as a sensitive position.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need to know basis following Department of Health, HIPAA, and Information Security and privacy policies and procedures.  Employee abides by State/Federal laws governing health information.  Responsible to maintain confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information.  Refers and utilizes DOHP 50-10. This position has access to the following information sets:  Medical Records, Laboratory Reports, Immunizations, and Health Management System (HMS).

 

CLINIC SERVICES

  • Promotes and maintains health of individuals, families and community through appropriate preventative and rehabilitative measures.
  • Provides comprehensive nursing services in all FDOH Lee clinics and community settings as warranted.  These services include childhood and adult immunizations, reproductive health services, assessing of vital signs, counseling/conference, health screening, health education, referrals and follow-up of the referrals.
  • Maintains quality records in the clinic or community groups and collecting of laboratory specimens.
  • Responsible for timely follow-up on abnormal lab results according to established protocols.

 

SUPPORT SERVICES

  • Maintains comprehensive quality records.
  • Collects and reports pertinent data to nursing supervisors and physicians.
  • Provides appropriate case follow-up.
  • Participates in case conferences to confer with other professionals and to formulate and evaluate care plans.
  • Assists in record reviews.
  • Recognizes and understands the changes in the community and nursing practice which affects community health unit programs/plans.
  • Serves as staff advisor to student affiliates and new staff nurses.
  • Assists with health fairs, community organizations, and specific public health events as requested. Prepares reports or other required data within specified time frames. Attends pertinent conferences as requested or permitted.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities as assigned.  Attends monthly Community Health Team meetings, staff meetings and other mandatory meetings required by supervisor or Health Officer.
  • Assists with development and implementation of county/community activities to promote health and disease prevention to include TB and HIV. Responsible for follow-up of referrals to CHD programs.
  • Serves as CPR for Healthcare Training Instructor for a minimum of one full class per quarter.  May be required to teach additional classes depending on the needs of the Department.  Maintains CPR training records for all staff. Submits all needed documentation to American Heart Association in accordance with partnership agreement.

Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.27

 

Other job-related requirements for this position:

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
  • Must have current CPR certification or obtain such certification during employment.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position
  • Must be willing to undergo FIT testing.
  • Transporting Confidential Information:  This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.
  • Information Custodian Designee: This position has the responsibility of being the Information Custodian Designee for the Employee Health information set and, in the absence of the Information Custodian, will perform related duties as defined in
    DOHP 50-10.
