Your Specific Duties and Responsibilities: This nursing supervisory position provides professional nursing services in the care and treatment of patients within the Florida Department of Health in Duval County. The position reports directly to the Assistant Executive Community Health Nursing Director for School Health. This position performs or supervises professional nursing services, ancillary services and health education while consistently working in a team approach management style with the Assistant Executive Community Health Nursing Director and Medical Executive Director. Responsible for the supervision of staff Including appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. A current Florida nursing license is required.

  • Accurately applies nursing principles and techniques in the direct care and treatment of adult and pediatric patients.
  • Properly obtains immunization history and limited medical history, evaluates risk factors, and provides counseling within the standards of accepted medical practice and protocols. This is done with cultural competence and in consultation with a medical provider as needed.
  • Assesses, treats, evaluates, and provides health education and follow up with appropriate cultural competence.
  • Maintains patients’ records and ensures timely entry of each encounter in the Florida State Health Online Tracking System (FLSHOTS).
  • Reviews records for content, accuracy and format.
  • Provides exemplary customer service during telephone and walk-in triage as necessary in consultation with the provider.
  • Willingly and proactively maintains inventory of medical supplies and vaccinations across the agency and prepares examination/treatment rooms and equipment.
  • Provides monthly immunization rate reports to administration and clinical sites.

  • Responsible for clinics budget including input and monitoring.
  • Promotes cooperation within the agency and externally by maintaining positive relationships with the management team, medical providers, nurses, health support technicians, human service counselors, senior clerks and other staff. 
  • Develops and maintains an interdisciplinary team approach to patient care and case management.
  • Works in collaboration with all partners.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, including the peer review process.

  • Leads Immunization Advisory Committee.
  • Leads immunization quality improvement initiatives.
  • Oversees Compulsory Report and Compliance Report
  • Ensures VFC re-enrollment is completed annually, including staff trainings.
  • Ensures data loggers are sent for re-calibration annually.
  • Completes Seasonal Pre-Book of Flu Vaccine for the Department.
  • Oversees Rabies Treatment Program and provides rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin to those seeking care.
  • Provides oversight of all clinical functions and serves as a resource/expert for nursing functions in assigned clinic.
  • Provides the team with leadership to assure integrated operations with all clinical staff and operating units.
  • Acts as a liaison between administration and the health center staff for the dissemination of nursing policy and practice information. Ensures adherence to nursing protocol policies.
  • Works in collaboration with other administrators to assist in hiring and retaining competent clinical staff.
  • Ensures that the clinical staff is trained and the orientation checklist is completed within 90 days of hire.
  • Participates in staff development programs for persons assisting with client care.
  • Provides quality educational opportunities and training for nursing and medical assistant students.
  • Promotes professional leadership and growth.
  • Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.
  • Ensures timely completion of all mandatory training.
  • Ensures accurate and timely submission of Employee Leave and Attendance Records, as well as Employee Activity Records (EARs).
  • Provides services as required during disasters and performs other related duties as required. Travel is performed in relation to above duties. Access to a personal vehicle and a current Florida Driver’s License and Nursing License are essential to the performance of the duties described for this position.
  • Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

 

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques

  • Skill in using medical instruments or testing equipment used in providing nursing care.

Qualifications:

  • A current Florida Nursing License in accordance with Florida Statue 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.

 

Preferred:

  • A Bachelor's degree is nursing is preferred.
