Alternate Public Defender (Appellate Division) - Assistant Appellate Defender
The Appellate Division of the Georgia Public Defender Council is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Appellate Defender position. Applicants must be current members in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia and must be admitted to both the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Preference will be given to candidates who have 3-5 years or more of criminal trial experience, outstanding research and writing skills, and either appellate practice experience or extensive and equivalent motions practice experience. The position primarily entails providing competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients from the motion for a new trial through direct appeal.

Description of Duties: The Assistant Appellate Defender will provide competent and zealous representation and advocacy to indigent clients in the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. This position performs as a lead attorney, assigned to serious, high-profile, and significant felony and appellate cases. Performs other related duties as required.
: ASSISTANT APPELLATE DEFENDER
Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021)
