Primary Purpose
 
This position is located in Pocatello and serves high school in Pocatello, American Falls, and Aberdeen. The successful candidates will establish, coordinate and conduct activities to inform low-income, first generation persons about available financial aid and post-secondary education opportunities; to assist individuals in selecting, applying for and gaining financial assistance in enrolling in programs of post-secondary education.
1) Recruitment and documentation (30% time spent)
• Responsible for recruitment of potential participants and securing appropriate documentation for client eligibility (responsible for ensuring that 2/3rd of students are both 1st generation to college and meet federal income guidelines). Maintaining accurate and confidential records for 250 students, (including college and career plans, transcripts, test scores, scholarships, GPA, events attended, etc).
• Ongoing review of student caseload including: student progress as it relates to needs assessment and learning plan, documentation of students who have moved or left the program, scholarships received, financial aid received, etc.
• Maintain student files with all necessary physical documentation to ensure compliance with federal requirements.
2) Academic Planning (40% time spent)
• Provide academic assistance at target schools at least weekly, such as class selection for both secondary and postsecondary, study skills, goal setting, time management, academic success, career interest inventories, and technology.
• Develop and maintain working and trusting relationships with participants while ensuring program services are provided as outlined in the federal grant.
• Provide information to students regarding post-secondary opportunities including admissions, financial aid (FAFSA), scholarships, ACT/SAT/COMPASS testing, and course selection, CIS, Internet college searches, scholarship searches.
• Assist students in completing applications for admissions, scholarships, and financial aid, preparing and sending applications for admission and scholarships, phone and email communication with college officials and administrators
3) Workshops, events, and college visitations (20% time spent)
• Develop, coordinate and participate in parent nights, career field trips, college campus visits, financial aid nights, service learning events. Schedules includes EXTENSIVE evening, weekend, and overnight activities.
Bachelor's degree; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, must have access to and use of own transportation, demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students, staff, and administration; knowledge of career development, postsecondary courses, and study skills.
 
Preferred Qualifications
 
Experience working with underrepresented population; knowledge of target area (Southeast Idaho); knowledge of recruitment strategies for limited-income and first generation students; experience with state or federal record keeping Must be able to drive state vehicles for field trips with youth. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Salary has been approved at $36,211 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
