Position Overview
The Stationary Fireman performs a variety of boiler firing and maintenance functions on a shift basis under immediate supervision of the Stationary Engineer- Assistant Chief. The individual in this role will fire boilers, operate boiler feed, and adjust boilers to maintain flow of power. The ideal candidate will repair, clean, and provide maintenance of boilers and equipment while maintaining the cleanliness and security of the powerhouse on an assigned shift. Job Responsibilities
1. Fires boilers, operates boiler feed, and adjusts boilers to maintain flow of power.
2. Repairs, cleans, and provides maintenance of boilers and equipment and maintains the cleanliness and security of powerhouse on assigned shift.
3. Prepares and makes daily reports to supervisor as to the amount of water or natural gas consumed and on the operation of the powerhouse and of work not completed.
4. Remains up-to-date and in compliance with all applicable Department Rules, Administrative and Institutional Directives, and Institutional Policies and Procedures including tool control, key control, toxic, safety, and sanitation procedures.
5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of eight (8) years of elementary school.
2. Requires two (2) years of experience in the operation of high-pressure stationary boilers.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
1. Prefers at least (2) years of experience operating high-pressure boilers and equipment.
2. Prefers at least (2) years of experience repairing high-pressure steam boilers.
3. Prefers at least (2) years of experience maintaining and/or cleaning boilers.
4. Prefers at least (2) years of experience troubleshooting and taking corrective actions in emergency situations.
5. Prefers at least (2) years of experience preparing and providing daily reports.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
