About this Position
Under direction, performs highly responsible storekeeping duties involving the receipt, storage, maintenance and distribution of police equipment, supplies, uniforms and uniform related items. Maintains inventory, receives, and checks supply requests, and store records in support of the operation of the Quartermaster Section. Conducts transactions through the Uniform Inventory System (UIS) database used in support of Quartermaster Section operations. Serves as a lead worker.
Job Responsibilities

Receives, stores, issues, and documents a wide inventory of law enforcement uniform items, equipment, medical supplies, forms, and accessories including flares, plastics, handcuffs, and other small equipment.
Schedules individuals and District level appointments to receive, issue or replace uniform or equipment items as necessary. Prepares, packages and issues stock for Cadet Class issue, rank advancements and service milestones (rank insignia/service pins). Maintains stock of uniform items issued to Illinois State Police (ISP) officers. Determines serviceability of items turned in by officers, places items in stock or forwards to uniform depot for repairs or further examination. Operates a forklift, wheel cart, dolly, as well as lifts items weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, bend, crawl, etc., in loading/storing equipment or supplies. - Prepares articles, supplies, equipment, and documents for distribution through individual appointments and to locations throughout the state. Issues and assists in the proper fitting of items such as body armor, shoes, boots, hats, and a variety of other uniform accessories; travels to perform these duties. Assures proper control and storage of issued equipment. Makes determination of stock turnover, recommends reorder of items, prepares, and forwards surplus to the CMS Surplus Property Division.
- Monitors supply usage using proper documentation of orders and receipts, and supervisors of variations in Department needs for certain stock items. Utilizes Crystal Reports or other similar software to assist in determining stock needs, future expiration of equipment and current field issue. Conducts physical inventory of police uniform accessories and equipment stored at the Quartermaster Section monthly; participates in the annual inventory of all articles controlled by the Quartermaster Section in order. Maintains UIS transaction records as required.
- Serves as lead worker to the Storekeeper I and Apparel/Dry Goods Specialist III. Provides direction regarding daily responsibilities and coordinates with the Storekeeper III and Quartermaster to determine scheduling, assign work, and ensure duties and responsibilities are completed thoroughly and on a timely basis. Assists with training of new Storekeeper I and Apparel/Dry Goods Specialist III employees.
- Assists with the distribution of all incoming U.S. mail, interdepartmental mail, and packages delivered to the Quartermaster. Assists with answering incoming calls and directs those calls to the appropriate personnel; takes messages when personnel are unavailable; assists with incoming visitors and directs them to appropriate personnel.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of 4 years of high school.
2. Requires 2 years' experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers ability to access various computer software packages to maintain inventory records.
2. Prefers two (2) years' experience maintaining accurate counts of items delivered and disseminated.
3. Prefers working knowledge of reconciling various inventory records.
4. Prefers working knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures in the receipt, storage, and shipment of a variety of goods.
5. Prefers one year experience making inspections for quality of goods against purchase orders and specifications.
