Position Summary & Responsibilities :

Position Summary

This General Maintenance & Repair Technician position is located at the District One Headquarters Office located in Topeka, KS.

This position works closely with and under the direction of the Physical Plant Supervisor II and involves semi-skilled level work which requires considerable judgement to diagnose malfunctions and problems.

The General Maintenance & Repair Technician maintains the upkeep of buildings and grounds at the Materials and Research Center and District Complex, and selects the appropriate repair parts and materials, as well as the proper methods and procedures for the elaborate and complex units and systems within these facilities.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following

  • Maintains grounds, controls vegetation, and removes snow and ice from sidewalks.
  • Services, repairs, or replaces electrical appliances or components.
  • Monitors various mechanical and electrical system controls, meters, and gauges on a continuing basis to ensure proper operation and acceptable environmental conditions throughout the building.
  • Performs miscellaneous maintenance and repair tasks related to domestic plumbing, lighting, electrical wiring, painting, masonry, carpentry, etc.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six months of experience in a building trade or mechanical building trade.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.

  • This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment.
  • Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate required in accordance with Executive Order 2004-03.
