MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of weights and standards law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer with the powers of arrest, of which at least one year must have been as a weights and standards enforcement supervisor.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six years of any law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer with the powers of arrest, of which at least two years must have been as law enforcement supervisor.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment.
Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To manage functions and personnel related to the enforcement of laws and regulations for weights and standards that apply to commercial vehicles at stationary scales.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Manager.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Broad from a DOTD Enforcement Major. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Direct over DOTD Enforcement Lieutenants and lower-level personnel as assigned. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Transportation and Development.
JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Lieutenant by the presence of managerial responsibility for an assigned enforcement region.
Differs from DOTD Enforcement Major by the absence of serving as an assistant enforcement administrator.

Plans and manages enforcement activities of a region including all facets of surveillance, interrogation, investigation, apprehension, and arrest of violators of state/federal law.
Ensures that seized property is properly stored and disposed of as required by law.
Reviews activity reports, accident reports, citations, and violation reports submitted by subordinates.
Reviews enforcement complaints, investigates, and follows through with the appropriate actions.
Coordinates property management, evidence inventory control, equipment maintenance, and budgeting for the assigned region.
Serves as liaison with executives of other local, state and federal government agencies.
Oversees investigations and enforcement action of all fleet incidents involving region personnel.
Conducts review of workers' compensation claims within the region in an effort to determine injury patterns and the necessity for corrective safety measures.
Manages enforcement of state and federal laws and regulations related to weights and standards. Provides recommendations for policy and procedures as related to enforcement activities.
Supervises coordination of background investigations of prospective employees in an attempt to determine suitability for law enforcement work.
Coordinates regional or special unit public information releases.
Manages investigations for the purpose of gathering physical evidence and witness testimony to be used in determining criminal causes and prosecuting suspects.
Reviews documents completed by subordinates related to enforcement activities to ensure correct procedures and established policies are followed. Prepares managerial reports on operations and resources for the region.
May testify in court.
