Pharmacy Technician 1 - Trainee has an SER of $14.74 per hour
Pharmacy Technician 2 has an SER of $15.77 per hour

DETAIL: The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
PROBATIONAL APPOINTMENT: Current permanent status classified State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment, if selected.
TEMPORARY JOB APPOINTMENT: This position may be filled by temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

· SALARY DEPENDENDS ON LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE
· As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Pharmacy Technician 1(Trainee), or 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum salary for the Pharmacy Technician 2 is $44,741.00 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training required.
NOTE:
Upon accepting employment, persons must be eligible for a pharmacy technician candidate registration from the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. Before gaining permanent status with the agency, persons appointed to this position are subject to Chapter 9 of the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy regulations and are required to obtain a Pharmacy technician certificate from the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.Function of Work:
To be trained in the performance of varied paraprofessional duties in assisting licensed pharmacists.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Close from a licensed pharmacist.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from a Pharmacy Technician 2 by the absence of a Pharmacy Technician Certificate.
Note:
These duties must be performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Fills unit dose cassettes; verifies the amount of medication in the cassettes and the patient number (reviewed by a licensed pharmacist).
Pre-packages unit dose medication; packages individual prescription doses for dispensing by a licensed pharmacist.
Prepares and maintains patient medication profiles.
Assist in the orientation and training of pharmacy staff and students as directed by a licensed pharmacist.
Receive written doctor's orders and prescriptions and types medication labels.
Codes and posts patient profiles.
Inventories and stocks all medications, noting expiration dates and locations of drugs.
Fills requisitions and delivers stock medications to nursing stations.
Mails out-dated drugs to drug companies.
Cleans and disinfects pharmaceutical equipment.
May use the computer terminal to enter or retrieve information concerning patients or inventory.
