This vacancy is open to permanent classified employees of LSU Health-Shreveport, permanent classified state employees and external applicants. 


Applicants must have a State Civil Service test score for series 2100 PSE (Protective Services Exam) by the close of this announcement in order to be considered for this vacancy. 


A newly promulgated SCS rule 22.8(e) is effective per the attached HR Handbook update No. 2023-003. This new rule allows applicants who possess POST (Peace Officer Standards Training) to be exempt from the PSE (Protective Services Exam). Applicants who meet minimum qualifications/substitutions of this vacancy must apply during the announcement period. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1, Police Officer 2 or Police Officer 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.   The maximum salary for the Police Officer 3 is $6,013/month.

Police Officer 2-A     $19.88/hourly   $3,445.87/monthly     $41,350.40/annually

Police Officer 3-A     $21.27/hourly   $3,686.80/monthly     $44,241.60/annually

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No experience or training is required.
 
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.
 
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
 
May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
 
May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.
 
May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
 
For some positions, applicant must be eligible for bond.

Function of Work:

To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols; enforcing parking and traffic regulations; rendering emergency services; investigating minor crimes and making arrest when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services.

General from a higher-level police official.


Supervision Exercised:

None.

Statewide.


Job Distinctions:

Differs from Police Officer 2-A by the absence of experienced level duties.

Provides foot or mobile security patrol and enforces parking regulations.

Responds to emergencies and renders assistance as required.

Prepares reports on activities.

Provides crowd and traffic control at special events; may be required to intervene in situations utilizing force if necessary to make an arrest, to restore order, prevent interference with normal operations or to protect persons or property.
