OVERVIEW
The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) provides critical support services to over 13,000 employees. MaineIT oversees large scale enterprise applications and computing infrastructure that supports the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine executive branch and its agencies.
ABOUT THE JOB
Want to take computers apart, fix them, and put them back together again? Yeah, we do that, feel free to get your hands dirty. Speaking of getting your hands dirty, we also refurbish, re-image, and prepare computers for redeployment to other employees.
Want to help ensure state tax dollars don’t get wasted? Participate in regular inventory counts and ensure computer products aren’t lost or misplaced. It’s a lot of stuff to keep track of, the needs of an environment this complex are, well, complex.

You will have an exciting opportunity to work on a full range of system administration functions requiring a technical computer support background. You will be on a high performing team with exceptionally skilled IT professionals to support user groups across all state agencies and business units.
Responsibilities include installing and configuring network devices, diagnosing and resolving communication, hardware, and operating system problems, implementing and monitoring system security procedures, advising agency management on systems development, and conducting user training and product demonstrations. Work is performed under limited supervision. Teamwork is essential. We all help each other regardless of our roles, thus a multi-technical skilled candidate with a diverse background in systems is preferred.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, and other associated hardware connected to a user’s device.
- Research, recommend, install, and test hardware, software, and network configurations for Windows clients to provide an information system which effectively meets agency needs
- Perform inventory counts and reconciliation of inventory counts
- Receive, reclaim, and ship equipment
- Implement system security measures such as backups, access control, system accounting, and disaster recovery in order to maintain system integrity and availability.
- Utilize remote tools or onsite support, troubleshoot, diagnose hardware and software issues related to Windows clients
- Provide limited training to the end users for them to achieve nominal performance in computing
- Collaborate with other teams outside/within Client Technologies to resolve problems
- Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency
- Utilize and contribute to the Client Technologies Knowledgebase utilizing the KCS methodology
- Perform duties in accordance with established Service Level Agreements and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain IT security standards, including confidentiality
- Install and configure internal hardware components in PCs to maintain or enhance system operation and capabilities
- Perform troubleshooting and fault isolation on PCs and related system components in simple configurations to maintain system availability.
- Have the ability to perform work requiring lifting up to 50 lbs. and/or physical exertion may be required, this work may require crawling, climbing, kneeling, and the ability to grasp small objects with both hands.
- A valid driver’s license with reliable transportation is required for local deliveries of equipment when necessary
- In depth knowledge of current Microsoft operating systems (Windows 10), Office 365, remote tools, service desk ticketing systems, and desktop and laptop hardware
- Ability to configure, setup, consume, and utilize smartphones and IP softphones
- Participate in meetings and projects as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).
A high school diploma or general equivalency AND a demonstrated aptitude for technology and customer service

SALARY:
JOB CLASS CODE: 0928 POSITION: 020002544 PAY GRADE: 19 - ($40,976.00 - $54,579.20/yr.)*
*Includes a 15% recruitment and retention salary adjustment and eligibility for a 5% annual training bonus
BENEFITS:
The bi-weekly dollar values of some State-paid benefits for full-time employees include: $14.60 for dental insurance; 13.16% of employee’s pay towards retirement; and, depending on the employee’s annual pay, at least 85% ($412.23) of health insurance premiums (more information is available here). Participation in the Health Premium Credit Program can decrease the employee’s cost of health insurance by 5%.
