Job Description:  

The Department of Transportation, Environmental Office, Natural Resources Division, is seeking to fill a Biologist I vacancy at our Headquarters location in Augusta, with potential to work from our Bangor (Eastern) Region Office. 

The position supports the Biologist Ill (Natural Resources Division Manager) and Senior Environmental Manager in collecting data, reviewing assets, and responding to internal and external fisheries/wildlife inquiries. The Biologist I will work closely with the environmental office team, which consists of biologists, hydrologists, cultural staff, and permitting specialists. The position will also be responsible for coordination with the MaineDOT Bureau of Planning, Results and Information Office, and other state and federal agencies. The position will support MaineDOT in delivering transportation projects on time and in compliance with applicable natural resource regulations under NEPA. Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and knowledge base. 

-    Complete federal Endangered Species Act Consultation
-    Complete fish habitat and fish passage assessment
-    Complete natural resource delineation (i.e. wetlands, vernal pools, streams)
-    Use of GPS equipment to locate natural resource boundaries
-    Complete regulatory determinations for multiple natural resource regulations

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Wildlife Management, or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
