Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) is destigmatizing corrections for the betterment of all Maine communities. Through the ‘Maine Model of Corrections’, we promote the safety of our staff and residents while reducing barriers to meaningful rehabilitative opportunities. We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved residents and clients with the skills they need to become contributing members of society upon release, including treatment, education, and job training.
The Bureau of Human Resources is accepting applications to establish a register to fill a vacancy located at Long Creek Youth Development Center.
We are seeking candidates who have an interest in directing recreational programs in an institutional setting. In this role you will direct recreational program for residents at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, Maine. Responsibilities include developing and administering recreational and group work programs which may include athletic activities for the development, re-education, and rehabilitation of residents. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional and/or security personnel.
In this role, typical duties include, but are not limited to:
A well qualified candidate will demonstrate they have the knowledge of recreational and group work principles, ability to understand the psychology of delinquent persons, has an eye for keeping detailed records and the ability to write reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or education which provides knowledge and/or work experience in planning, organizing, and supervising athletic or other recreational activities.
