Introduction

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) is the state agency dedicated\r\nto preserving and interpreting the legacy of Maryland’s past.� Through research, conservation and education,\r\nMHT assists the people of Maryland in understanding their historical and\r\ncultural heritage.� Part of the Maryland\r\nDepartment of Planning, the Maryland Historical Trust serves as Maryland’s\r\nState Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) pursuant to the National Historic\r\nPreservation Act of 1966.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

This contractual position serves as the Easement Inspector for the Easement program within MHT’s Office of Preservation Services and monitors and evaluates the condition of properties protected by historic preservation easements held by the Maryland Historical Trust (MHT).\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

This position monitors the existing\r\nconditions and conducts inspections of properties protected by historic preservation\r\neasements and works in coordination with MHT staff, the Office of the Attorney\r\nGeneral (OAG) and other co-holding agencies to enforce the terms of the Deeds\r\nof Easements.� This position\r\nrequires extreme attention to detail, excellent organizational, communication\r\nand interpersonal skills and a strong interest in working collaboratively.� Duties include:\r\n�\r\n\r\n Notifying and scheduling site inspections with property\r\n owners and co-holding agencies.\r\n Preparing easement inspection reports, notification to\r\n owners (in writing) of inspection results.\r\n Organizing digital inspection photographs, and general easement\r\n file maintenance (easement files, vertical files, and database). �\r\n Identifying and presenting all easement violations to\r\n the Easement Subcommittee and OAG for review.\r\n Drafting correspondence and tracking all violations\r\n until the violation is resolved.� \r\n Maintaining working relationships with the general\r\n public, property owners, professional agencies, and fellow Maryland\r\n Historical Trust staff.\r\n This position may also be assigned other duties as\r\n necessary by the Easement Administrator, including assisting the Easement\r\n Administrator with processing changes/alteration applications and acting\r\n as support staff to the Easement Committee.\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited\r\ncollege or university in Historic Preservation, Architectural History or other\r\nclosely related field.\r\nNote: Candidates may\r\nsubstitute a Bachelor’s\r\ndegree (not in a closely related field) and two years of directly related\r\nexperience for the required education.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications.� Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\nEducation:� A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Historic Preservation, Architecture, Architectural History, or closely related field.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience with photo documentation of historic architecture.�\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience reviewing technical plans and drawings.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience evaluating building and material conditions and assessing/researching appropriate treatments\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience with application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be\r\nassigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.� Employees assigned such duties will be\r\nrequired to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of\r\nMaryland.\r\n
