Introduction

Administrative Specialist III\r\nMuseum Asst\r\n�\r\n\r\n�\r\nJoin a dynamic\r\nteam that supports the Maryland National Guard, their mission, and the other\r\nState employees of the Maryland Military Department. This position works on a\r\ncompressed work schedule from 6:30 am to 5 pm, Tuesday through Friday. The\r\nMaryland Military Department offers free gated parking at this location.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

This position is assigned to the Maryland Military Historical Research Center with the purpose of assisting in fulfilling the Research Center's State statutory requirements to collect, interpret, preserve, and present documents, photographs, electronic media, and other materials containing information or imagery relating to the history of the people, places, and events of the military heritage of the State of Maryland. This position will also assist in general reference duties in the Research Center and remote services via email and telephone correspondence and with various exhibits and programs to educate the public regarding the military history of the State.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position\r\ninclude but are not limited to:�\r\n�\r\nPhysically\r\nconsolidates and properly stores all archival material of the Maryland Military\r\nHistorical Research Center.\r\n�\r\nCatalogs archival\r\ncollections into an established electronic database.\r\n�\r\nCatalogs photographic\r\nassets.\r\n�\r\nSurveys and appraises\r\nMaryland Military Historical Research Center's original document collection for\r\nretention.\r\n�\r\nProcess and ensures\r\nappropriate assets of significant historical importance are micro-formed.\r\n�\r\nProduces\r\nuser-friendly, detailed, physical and digital finding aids to make the\r\ninformational content of the records accessible to researchers.\r\n�\r\nProvide guidance and\r\nreference services to Research Center patrons who submit inquiries via email,\r\nphone, letter, or visit in person.\r\n�� � � ��Executes a Records Collecting Plan developed by the Curator that incorporates most requested research needs and identified gaps in original documents and or military records, recordings, electronic media and images to be addressed.\r\n�� � � � Other duties as assigned.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. \r\nExperience: Three years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.� \r\nNotes: \r\n1.�Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.\r\n2.�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies�on a year-for-year basis for the required�experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications\r\n* One year of experience cataloging archival collections\r\ninto an electronic database (PastPerfect or AHCAS is highly preferred).\r\n* One year of experience in\r\npreparing archival material for long-term storage. \r\n* One year of experience in\r\nproviding reference services to researchers via email, phone, letter, or in\r\nperson. \r\n* One year of experience in\r\nexamining and appraising original documents for retention in a collection. \r\n* A Bachelor’s degree from\r\nan accredited college or university in Public History, Military History,\r\nHistory, Museum Studies, Library Science, or a related field.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this\r\nclassification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor\r\nvehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor\r\nvehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland with less than 5\r\npoints on their driving record.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All selected candidates\r\nwith the Maryland Military Department are required to have a background check\r\nprior to being employed.��\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nEmployees in this classification are subject to\r\nsubstance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations\r\n17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n\r\n\r\n
