Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full time contractual position is to provide general administrative support with data entry, sorting, batching, and logging of span related denial request resulting from claims denials in the Medicaid Provider Services Administration (MAPSA) Problem Resolution Division. Individuals should have knowledge and experience performing diverse clerical duties which support agency operations that require the data entry, review, verification and interpretation of information in order to make determinations and resolve problems in accordance with policies, regulations and laws applicable to agency programs. This position will determine if the appropriate 257 submission, billing methodologies were followed in accordance with Maryland Medicaid and Federal policies and procedures. This position will also perform clerical functions which consist of data entry, sorting, processing, and filing medical claims invoices or other documents pertinent to agency programs, regulations and procedures. This position will be responsible for assisting with the fee for service inpatient and outpatient facility services. Responsibilities include data entry of the claim, the review and interpretation benefits and edit/audit resolution, claim payment and routing claims for review to OHS for resolution. This position will follow all state & federal regulations when determining responsible payer, coding of the claims and ensuring that clean claims are filed to each payer. This employee should have good interpersonal skills, the ability to complete correspondence and applicable forms to obtain information necessary for claim adjudication. This position may review letters from physicians/hospitals to determine payable procedures and or recipient/provider eligibility. This position has many changing procedures in order to meet state and federal requirements while maintaining acceptable performance levels based upon standards for production and quality. Other duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be required and/or assigned as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have knowledge and experience performing diverse clerical duties consisting of: copying, filing, answering phones, sending & sorting faxes and electronic and written correspondence, retrieving, checking and sending emails, supply inventory, and use of computers and other duties as assigned.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
