What are the responsibilities and job description for the Videographer position at State of Michigan?
This is an at-will and partisan position that produces and edits visual media for all members of the House Republican caucus. The videographer is a dedicated self-starter who attends events, House session, and meetings to record events, while also scheduling prepared video messages and assisting member offices in editing videos for public presentation. The videographer role requires close attention to detail, dynamic creativity, and originality. The individual must be able to work closely with members, staff, and officials and staff from other branches of government. The position requires in-person work Monday-Friday, with occasional remote work as directed by the Minority Chief of Staff or Republican Leader and will require work on some nights and weekends. Due to the nature of the position, a high level of confidentiality is required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Records video of various official events inside and outside the state Capitol
- Works with communications director and caucus services director to identify opportunities for new video messages
- Proactively seeks opportunities for members to convey our caucus message in radio, television, print media, and other mediums as applicable
- Provides strategic advice to the communications director, caucus services director, and members on the best opportunities for new videos
- Edits recordings to format for television, social media, and historic record
- Works with members, member office staff, and caucus services advisors to schedule video opportunities
- Assists with media coaching sessions for Republican members
- Maintains the office studio and video equipment
- Coordinates joint video opportunities between multiple officials, offices and branches of government
- Performs other duties assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience composing, capturing, and editing videos is preferred
- One or more years of state government or other relevant experience preferred
- Must be comfortable functioning in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment
- Experience managing different personalities and a multitude of issues is required
- Must be familiar with House rules, policies, and guidelines
- Must have an understanding of legislative districts and state political processes
- Familiarity handling a demanding schedule preferred
