Job Summary
The DNR is seeking to fill a seasonal, part-time (90%) Buildings and Grounds Worker position at Bear Head Lake State Park, in Ely, MN. Days of work are Thursday through Monday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Anticipated season dates are April 19th through September 26th, each year.
This position will assist in the operation, maintenance, and security of facilities of Bear Head Lake State Park and state forest campgrounds.
Responsibilities include:
- To perform janitorial and other operational tasks so that the park may serve the public in a safe, sanitary and operable manner at all times.
- To perform maintenance on buildings, grounds and equipment so that they are in a safe and operable condition for use.
- To answer the telephone and radio and take messages, and give out information, so that communication is accurate and complete.
- State Forest Campgrounds operations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, Toolcat, tractor, heavy equipment, snowmobile, ATV, chainsaw, stump remover, lawn mower, hand tools and other equipment sufficient to accomplish work duties correctly and safely.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, in instruction manuals, and procedures, etc, sufficient to carry out duties correctly and safely.
- Arithmetic skills sufficient to accurately collect money from the public for various fees.
- Ability to communicate in writing sufficient to accurately and timely complete routine reports.
- Ability to provide written information and instructions to the public and other employees.
- Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
- Ability and willingness to work alone in remote areas of the park.
- Ability to routinely clean and sanitize park facilities including restrooms and showers safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience performing routine maintenance and repair of small engines, vehicles and other equipment and tools.
- Customer service experience.
- Knowledge of park rules, policies and facilities.
- Record keeping skills.
- Chainsaw certification.
- Experience in the construction trades; plumbing and carpentry.
- First Aid and CPR training.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work - Occasionally lifting articles such as 50 pound bags maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Additional Requirements
*This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License with a clear driving record*
