Job Summary
The Environmental Health Supervisor will provide supervisory oversight to all aspects of the Drinking Water Ambient Monitoring effort as well as to associated Source Water Protection Unit needs regarding data use and management. The Drinking Water Monitoring Program administration will involve operational concerns such as setting project goals and schedules, establishing monitoring plans, coordinating with staff and partners, data analysis, and reporting. Unit data management efforts support ongoing operational needs of the source water protection unit.
Candidates residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, or South Dakota may have the option to telework; however, telework schedules are based on the Unit’s operational needs and are at the supervisory discretion.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant’s resume/application to be considered for the position.
- Four (4) years of experience in an environmental health program, examples of this include:
o Geologic mapping.
o Groundwater investigations.
o Groundwater flow modeling, and/or development of databases for storing and retrieving geologic and geochemical information.
AND
- Demonstrated planning skills sufficient to plan and organize large projects, prioritize, and make recommendations or decisions on the direction of a project.
- Coaching, mentoring, developing and/or of staff while building relationships.
A Bachelor’s degree in earth sciences, geology, environmental sciences, public health, or closely related field may substitute for (1) year of experience; A master’s degree in earth sciences, geology, environmental sciences, public health, or closely related field may substitute for (18) months of experience and a Doctorate degree in earth sciences, geology, environmental sciences, public health, or closely related field may substitute for (2) years of experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience may include experience as supervisor, lead worker, team lead, project lead, or completion of a State of MN leadership program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage, guide, and communicate with staff and partners at all levels.
- Experience with organizing and working with advisory groups.
- Written and Oral communication skills sufficient to present plans and data, lead discussions, and communicate sensitive issues to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to review and evaluate technical reports and prepare summaries of this information for use by non-technical staff.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with a variety of people in complex and difficult situations.
Physical Requirements
Work outdoors in all types of climatic conditions.
Additional Requirements
This position requires successful completion of a reference and background check.
This position does not require a valid driver’s license, but it demands travel, which the candidate will be responsible for meeting.
