Manufactured Food Inspector (4555901)

Job Location: This position will be located at 149 Park Central Square, Suite 116, Springfield, Missouri, however, the position is also being considered for potential location change to 8800 E. 63rd Street, Suite 600, Raytown, Missouri, depending on candidate selected.

The Manufactured Food Program is seeking a self-motivated, experienced individual who can understand and apply food safety regulations and scientific principles to independently complete routine and special circumstance inspection assignments. This is a part time position with flexible hours but of limited duration. Hourly compensation but no benefits are provided. A retired federal/state/local/third party inspector interested in a part time position with flexible hours that doesn't get in the way of other interests would love this job!

What you’ll do:

• Inspect a wide variety of food processing operations including but not limited to bakeries, water bottlers, breweries, distilleries and sauce/condiment manufacturers.
• Conduct compliance and enforcement activities, complaint/illness investigations, and collect samples at regulated facilities.
• Provide food safety technical guidance to industry, local public health agencies (LPHAs), and the public.
• Assist the retail food program with recalls, inspections, and technical guidance as needed.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Science, Food Safety or closely related field (substitutions for experience will be considered).
• Five or more years of food safety inspection experience with substantial training and experience with U.S. Food and Drug Administration Regulations is preferred.
• Excellent people skills; ability to manage conflict, multi-task, solve problems, and take direction; ability to make difficult decision based on public health principles; advanced written and oral communication skills, including public speaking; proficient with Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to travel in and out of state, including some overnight stays. Valid driver’s license required.
