The Position
Positions allocated to this series perform complex mathematical and statistical analysis on public health databases by applying statistical theories and principles to determine cause and effect relationships.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series. This recruitment is an underfill for several Biostatistician II positions within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Analytics and all positions are in Carson City, NV. These positions will assist with various analytic and data-related projects supporting a range of initiatives. For example, one vacant position focuses on data analysis for the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS), including assisting with preparing DWSS caseload projections; caseload projections are a required function of the legislative biennium budget process and ongoing biennium monitoring by DWSS and DHHS leadership. Another vacant position focuses on chronic disease-related data analysis for the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH). Another vacant position focuses on behavioral and mental health data analysis for the Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH). Other Biostatistician II vacancies on the team may arise in other areas and this open recruitment may be used to find candidates for those positions as well. Incumbents are responsible for meeting all deadlines set. Positions allocated to this series perform complex mathematical and statistical analysis on public health databases by applying statistical theories and principles to determine cause and effect relationships. Positions in this job class also produce routine and special reports, completing data linkages using both exact and probabilistic matching procedures, and using SAS or analytic software programming and statistical methods to complete analyses on caseload-related data, health-related data, or other assigned data. Incumbents are responsible for developing strategies to ensure accuracy of data collected, providing routine and special analytical reports, completing data linkages, and using SAS, STATA, or other analytic software programming and statistical methods to complete analyses on related data. This position requires the demonstrated use of statistical methods and programs utilizing SAS or similar analytic software. This position may require travel both in and out of state up to 25%. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in statistics, mathematics or closely related field; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of paraprofessional experience assisting in conducting statistical analysis including gathering and analyzing data from various sources using computer software; OR one year of experience as a Statistician II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
