Why does the job exist?
The Department of Information Technology (DOIT) Dispatch was established to provide statewide radio dispatch services to public law enforcement and numerous other state agencies. Its sole purpose is to conduct effective communication that will ensure the safety of the citizens and client agency employees that is serves. The State of New Mexico has mandated that it be adequately staffed 24/7/365. all Dispatch positions are considered "safety sensitive" and "essential employees".
How does it get done?
- Receiving emergency and non-emergency calls and the recording of significant information.
- Addressing problems and requ4sts by transmitting information or providing solutions.
- Monitor the route and status of filed units to coordinate and prioritize emergencies
- Provide field units with information about traffic, obstacles and requirements
- Oversee all communications within specifically assigned territories. DolT dispatches for all state agencies that are not law enforcement: Fire Marshal, NMDOT, NMED, Forestry, DOIT Radio Microwave Techs, Probation & Parole, etc.
- Monitor all hospitals and ambulances statewide ( if communication is lost between the ambulance and hospital, DOIT Dispatch relays information to both parties)
- Aids law enforcement agencies with assistance on New Mexico highways with a variety of conditions, damaged guardrails, traffic accidents, fallen trees, bad weather, animals on the roadway, providing traffic control-someone to direct traffic during emergencies, roadway debris, motor vehicle accidents blocking traffic (semi turned over, etc.)
- Monitors the whereabouts and activity of Probation & Parole Officers in the filed amongst felons.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico ID or New Mexico Driver's License. Subject to Pre-employment criminal background investigation, drug test and hearing test. This position is designated as safety sensitive. While employed, employee is subject to random drug testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is conditional pending results of criminal background check, drug test and hearing test.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in 24/7 Law enforcement office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Irregular hours, overtime, swing shifts, graveyard shifts, weekends and/or holidays shifts are required. Minimal travel may be required.
