Why does the job exist?
This position performs duties of a physical therapy aide in a rehabilitation hospital including preparing the patient for treatment and preparing the treatment area for all therapies; occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. This position will include clerical tasks, transportation of patients and may also assist with coverage of the main switchboard.
How does it get done?
Maintains ongoing departmental logs (cleaning, periodic checks, preventative maintenance) as required. Cleaning equipment and treatment area as directed by clinical staff. Transport of patients within facility, to/from hospital, medical appointments or to other appointments as designated by supervisor. Translates for NMRC staff as needed and able. Assists in the physical lifting, moving and transfers of patients as directed by clinical staff in gym and nursing staff on MRU. Provides supervision of patients in pool area as directed. Cleans pool area and changing rooms, assists with fire/safety procedures in pool area. Assists with the following clerical tasks as designated by SLP, PT, PTA, OT, OTA, MSW. Ordering depleted supplies, answering the phone, other paperwork, copying and faxing patient information/referrals, Billing, Assisting SW with other clerical needs, Other general clerical duties, assisting with coverage of switchboard and admission of patients (once trained and competent), Assists any patients during evacuation or fire drills and/or other emergency procedures. Provides for maintenance of Center wheelchairs ensuring an adequate supply and wheelchair parts for repair. Organize wheelchairs and parts in storage area. Notifies Supervisor of any maintenance repairs; prepares work orders and purchase orders for wheelchairs and/or parts and supplies as necessary. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment requires successful completion of criminal background and is conditional pending results. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a rehabilitation hospital setting. Exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some walking, sitting, standing, bending and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. May be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime. Some travel may be required.
