Position Summary

 

Reporting to the Regional Safety Manager, the Safety Health, and Sustainability Coordinator will partner with plant management to ensure a safe, hazard-free and incident free workplace. They will participate in the environmental, health and safety programs for multiple sites ensuring the organization follows local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and standards.  They will work directly with team members to promote safety, health, and sustainability at all facilities. They will participate in the planning, and implementation of the company’s safety, health, and sustainable programs.  This position will participate in monthly safety meetings, assist injured employees with transportation to initial clinic visit and ensure the company is complying and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.

 

The ideal candidate will be able to analyze complex plans and be able to identify mistakes and inefficiencies. They will effectively collaborate with team members at all levels of the organization.  They should be approachable and outgoing with an ability to effectively communicate.

 

 

Position Responsibilities

 

  • Review, analyze, and investigate work related accidents/illnesses follow up as necessary.
  • Conduct employee monthly safety meetings at all facilities.
  • Conduct SHS investigations for accident, incident, near-miss or into employee inquiries, suggestions, and complaints. Make recommendations for corrective action.
  • Respond to and provide support during work-related incidents.
  • Partner with supervisors to facilitate incident investigations, identifies root causes to effectively prevent a recurrence, and tracks corrective action effectiveness.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and closure to select health, safety, and industrial hygiene compliance gaps identified through corporate audits, internal audits, third party audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Participate and support implementation of effective team member training and education programs related to environmental, health and safety compliance and incident prevention.
  • Participate in safety program self-assessments, job hazard analyses, audits, and inspections for compliance with environmental, health and safety requirements
  • Participate in the development of hazmat procedures and policies.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Make recommendations to correct identified hazards.
  • Support team members in the selection of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
  • Procure, track, and ensure availability of PPE.
  • Coordinate on-site annual hearing tests and ensure proper tracking and documentation. In addition to other required medical evaluations for OSHA compliance.
  • Partner with department management teams to support implementation of safe work practices, review processes operating procedures and make recommendations for safety and health considerations.
  • Make recommendations on work safety standards and enforces procedures. Risk prevention areas include hazardous materials exposure, accidents, fires, or other unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in ensuring the environmental calendar is executed timely
  • Execute job site analysis, determines employee exposure, and participate in safe work practices.
  • Actively participate and coordinate employee health and safety committees
  • Administer the Workers Compensation and Employee Return to Work (RTW) Programs. Work closely with HR to oversee RTW steps.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental, safety, and health regulatory considerations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Position Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or High School diploma or state-issued equivalency certificate plus four (4) years of safety, health, or environmental experience
  • Bilingual, English, and Spanish, is required.
  • Skilled in developing clear written communications, procedures, and instructions
  • Good organizational skills with an ability to effectively prioritize
  • Ability to build effective relationships resulting in a safe workplace
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record/ Required to obtain a California driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire
  • Ability to respond to incidents in off hours,
  • Relevant experience in safety, environmental, or health management and compliance is required.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety Health (OSH) guidelines and practices is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills are required.
  • Ability to work effectively with regulatory agencies, consultants, and outside contractors
