What are the responsibilities and job description for the Land Surveyor position at State of New York?
Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible lists or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law. For appointment from an eligible list, candidates must be currently registered as a Land Surveyor in New York State.
If a viable eligible list does not exist, a provisional appointment may be made in accordance with Civil Service Law. Candidates who accept a provisional appointment must take the next competitive examination and be reachable on the resultant eligible list in order to be considered for permanent appointment to the position.
The minimum requirements for taking the Promotional examination are:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State with permanent competitive or non-competitive service (including 55-b/55-c) as:
Either an Assistant Land Surveyor 2 or Assistant Land Surveyor 3;
OR
Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation), Construction Specialist 1 (Transportation), Mapping Technician 3, Mapping Technologist 1, Principle Drafting Technician (Architectural), Principal Drafting Technician (General), Principal Drafting Technician (Structural), Principal Engineering Technician, Principal Engineering Technician (Soils), or Real Estate Specialist 1.
The minimum requirements for taking the Open Competitive examination are:
New York State Land Surveyor's License with current registration*
- You must indicate your land surveyor's license number and registration information on your application by listing them in the "license or certification" section of the online/paper application.
Duties Description Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Developing and documenting Land Surveying and ROW mapping standards and procedures
- Developing specifications for the procurement of surveying hardware and software
- Developing and coordinating training programs for Regional ROW Mapping and Survey Groups
- Supporting Regional Survey Units with equipment and operations assistance
- The incumbent may be responsible for completing surveys and ROW mapping on Department projects
- The incumbent may assist the Department's Contract Management Group in the Term Agreement for Surveying Services (TASS) contracting process
- The incumbent may be responsible for preventative maintenance measures and monitoring of the NYSNET (NYS Spatial Reference Network CORS/Real Time GPS Network).
Occasional statewide travel will be required
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Additional Comments *Telecommuting: The Department's current telecommuting agreement is valid through February 15th, 2023 and is subject to extension beyond that date.
