The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping and boating laws. The NCWRC employs 700 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.
The NC Wildlife Resource Commission’s Financial Services Section provides comprehensive financial support services for the Wildlife Resources Commission. As such, the Section performs fiscal and related systems management including accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, internal control and data processing for the WRC and more than 1,000 wildlife service agents.
The Budget and Planning component is responsible for the following:
1. oversees all budgetary and planning functions for the agency
2. calculating financial data to support capital improvements
3. liaison between WRC and the office of the State Budget and Management
4. liaison between WRC and the Legislative Fiscal Research Office
The Controller’s component is responsible for performing the following services for the Wildlife Commission:
1. financial systems and reporting
2. federal funds
3. cash management
4. program cost accounting
5. accounts receivable
6. accounts payable
7. Comprehensive Annual Report (CAFR)
The Commission receives funding from the General Fund as well as a variety of receipt supported sources. Careful accounting for all funding is crucial for the Commission’s continuing successful operations. Therefore, the Accounts Payable/Payroll Manager has a very critical accounting function in ensuring that all funds received from retail sales, from hunting and fishing licenses, from vessel registrations and titling, from outside contracts, from gifts, and from government sources including federal grants and state dollars are appropriately received, disbursed, recorded and accounted for in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and departmental policy.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking applicants for an Accounting Technician. The primary purpose of this position is to effectively discharge payments to vendors and employees in a timely and accurate manner.
This position will receive invoices for payment and perform auditing procedures in accordance with the Office of State Controller and the General Accepted Accounting Principles. This position is responsible for reconciling the charges made using the Purchasing Card held by WRC employees, processing employee travel and reimbursement expenses, matching invoices with purchase orders, processing direct payments and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This position also serves as an assistant and backup to the Accounts Receivable Technician. The position’s responsibility is to verify cash/checks and reconcile the NC Go Outdoors deposit confirmation and/or NC Go Outdoors distribution spreadsheet when Accounts Receivable Technician is unable to do so.
The schedule associated with this position is Monday-Friday; 8:00 am – 5:00 pm schedule which is 40 hours per week. This position also allows for a flexible/hybrid remote schedule. This position will be based out of our Wildlife Resources Commission Headquarters building in Raleigh, NC (Wake County).

- Experience with accounting methods, procedures, and accounting practices.

Associate’s degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience;
