The ADA Officer is a key position in the coordination of the Department's ADA program. The ADA Officer's position is comprehensive, coordinative, consultative, analytical, investigative and advisory work designed to effectively monitor and administer compliance with ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This position is responsible for updating, maintaining, implementing, and administering, the Department's ADA Transition Plan and associated requirements. This position is involved with and processes complaints and requests, resolves issues, and responds to questions concerning ADA discrimination and reasonable accommodations. The position will track ADA program activity; ensure the continuity of ADA training and printed materials, website, policies, procedures and other public and private forms of communication. The position will attend professional level meetings and advise on decisions and determinations on ADA / civil rights matters. The ADA Officer engages in sharing information pertaining to ADA awareness within the Departments. - Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as amended and related programs, laws and regulations
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
- Documented experience with the ADA reasonable accommodation process, related guidelines, and resources, as well as determination methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate data as well as writing reports utilizing data compiled.
- Documented experience with complaint investigation processes and investigative report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to compare complex information to state and federal guidelines to determine whether accessibility deficiencies exist.
- Ability to plan, prepare and provide effective guidance and training to customers.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., federal, state, and local officials, teammates, contractors, and members of the public).
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in high stress or unprecedented situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively through listening, writing, and speaking.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with project/program planning and development.
