The Piedmont Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Research Manager in the Horticulture Unit. The primary purpose of this Agricultural Research Manager position is supervisory responsibility over a team of (3) Research Technicians, (1) Research Specialist, as well as seasonal and temporary staff. The major functions of this position are to act as the research program manager for assigned programs / projects, human resources management for assigned staff, overseeing operation and maintenance of assigned assets and public relations support to station operations. This position will also support animal agricultural units as seasonal demand requires.
Major functions of this position are:- Manage assigned research programs/ projects.
- Maintaining accurate records and budgets of all research projects
- Human Resources management for assigned staff.
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated and working correctly.
- Assist other units as needed.
This position will require some weekend and overtime work depending on station needs. Benefits include:- Twelve Paid Holidays annually.

- Specific knowledge of agricultural research principles and protocol.
- Ability to collect and direct the accurate collection of research data.
- Ability to monitor crops for health, pests, disease and implement proper control measures.
- Ability to properly set up and operate a variety of farm equipment related to this operation.
- Ability to supervise a team of permanent and seasonal employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with project leaders and staff.
- Physical requirements include the ability to perform long periods of repetitive reaching, Stooping, standing, bending, and lifting of 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform all essential tasks in adverse weather conditions.
- Must possess a Valid Driver's License.
Must possess the following at the time of application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment: *Forklift Driver Certificate issued by Research Station Division
*Public Pesticide Applicator License
*Obtain medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
*Obtain Soil Fumigation Certification
You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience or a combination of both.
