What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Sergeant II position at State of North Carolina?

The standardized annual salary for this position is $47,644 dependent upon fund availability and OSHR approval.
 
Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager I, this position is the first line of supervision to Correctional Officer II’s in a medium custody facility increasing custody and security coverage. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Overseeing Correctional Officer’s activities and performance, ensuring the custody, security, and welfare of Offenders is maintained. 
  • Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. 
  • Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
  • Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
 
This is a full-time position working rotating shifts with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
 
About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.  Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
 
About Albemarle Correctional Institution:
Albemarle Correctional Institution is located in Badin, North Carolina and houses up to 856 male offenders in a  medium custody facility. The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer
Or
Two years of experience as Correctional Officer II
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.

MUST be eligible for certification by the N.C.   • Per NC General Statute 143B-972.1, applicants hired into a position certified as a criminal justice officer or justice officer are required to electronically submit fingerprints to the NC State Bureau of Investigation for a state and national criminal history record check and enrollment in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification System: Criminal Justice Record of Arrest and Prosecution Background Service (“RAP Back”).  This is in addition to submitting fingerprints during the application process.
