This is skilled professional engineering work related to marine asset management, project delivery, construction, and other tasks as associated. Work is located through the coastal region of North Carolina at any of the NCDOT Ferry Terminals.
This position will provide supervision for the Marine Maintenance Unit that is within Marine Asset Management and will lead the organization and planning of yearly work tasks including but not limited to dolphin repairs and maintenance, ramp/gantry repair and maintenance, dredging, dredge disposal material placement area maintenance and improvements, vessel maintenance and repair, and other relevant tasks. This position will also include assisting with managing contracts with general contractors and professional engineering firms to assist in accomplishing work plans and mission requirements. Work will include the establishment of asset management and project reports.
This position is responsible for consultation, investigation, evaluation and planning, design, design review and approval, and/or determination of environmental and safety impacts of work processes and programs.
This position will also provide project management oversight, which may include supervision of lower-level technical and professional staff; oversee or review marine asset projects; and manage the implementation of projects/plans according to codes and regulations.
Work assignments may involve unique factors and be lacking in precedence on which to base decisions and may be technically complex, as evidenced by a high number of variables and interrelated considerations. Work is often performed independently, requiring professional knowledge of complex and/or detailed technical procedures.
Work may require professional licensure or other certifications.
Work performed includes exercising judgment and decision-making that directly impacts life, health, safety, and/or the environment.
Positions provide consultation on issues and requests from clients and/or higher-level professionals to discuss alternative solutions and may supervise/mentor staff.

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification may require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
