DEQ has an open opportunity for a Field Representative.
This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
This Field Representative is responsible for duties that are primarily those associated with administration of Permit requirements of the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) and the Dredge and Fill law in the area. Approximately two-thirds of this work is outside and physical in nature. This position is based in the Washington Office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for CAMA Regulatory Permitting and Enforcement work for development projects
- Conducting on-site reviews of permit applications.
- Providing information on projects that usually require coordination with other divisions and state agencies for permit approval.
- Applicant should have good verbal and written communication skills.
The Division of Coastal Management
The Division of Coastal Management (DCM) works to protect, conserve, and manage North Carolina’s coastal resources through an integrated program of planning, permitting, education and research. DCM carries out the state’s Coastal Area Management Act, the Dredge and Fill Law and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 in the 20 coastal counties, using rules and policies of the NC Coastal Resources Commission, known as the CRC. Recruitment Range: $47,959 - $56,627

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL the following:)
- Demonstrated knowledge of coastal environmental resources.
- Experience in resource management and/or environmental regulations.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment, requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
- Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
