What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Program Education Assistant (YPEA) I - Wright School position at State of North Carolina?
Work hours are Monday 8:00am - 4:00pm and Tuesday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm; however, flexibility is required to meet the needs of students. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package, including health insurance, retirement, paid sick/vacation/holidays, etc.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, good managerial skills, good organizational skills, ability to establish good working relationships with paraprofessionals, professionals, students and parents;
- Knowledge of practical application of task analysis and goal setting with SED students;
- Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive children and youth;
- Ability to establish rapport and respect without undue resort to physical control and authoritative attitude;
- Ability to work and plan with clinical staff in assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans; and physical ability to manage disruptive children and youth without harm to students or staff.
Management prefers: High school graduation and three years of experience working with individuals with emotional or developmental disabilities with emphasis on behavioral management, preferably with one year of such experience being with children and/or youth; or an Associate degree in a human services field and two years of experience working with individuals with emotional or developmental disabilities with emphasis on behavior management, preferably with one year of such experience being with children and/or youth; or a four year degree and one year of experience working with individuals with emotional or developmental disabilities, with emphasis on behavioral management; or a four year degree in a human services field or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preference will be given to applicants with experience with latency age children with emotional and behavioral disturbance, preferably in a residential or educational setting.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of directly related experience; or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications As required by facility, CPR certification and listing as a Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation required prior to providing direct patient care.
