The Office of Budget and Management (OBM) welcomes applications for its Budget Management Analyst position. For this prestigious opportunity, we seek a highly motivated individual who has experience or has received a degree in public administration, business administration, public policy or finance.

What You'll Do:

This is a unique position in state government that combines public policy with public finance. Budget Management Analysts (BMAs) maintain a portfolio of state agencies, boards or commissions. BMAs review agency budget and policy requests and make recommendations to OBM leadership and to members of the Governor’s office in developing the state’s $70 billion budget. This position also includes monitoring the day-to-day finances of their assigned state agencies, working with the State Controlling Board, researching public policy, and oral and written presentations. The BMA position provides for steady career advancement and has served as the entry point for many leaders in Ohio state government.


The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, both orally and written, and confident in making recommendations in group settings with executive level staff. The selected candidate should be able to think critically to draw valid impact/outcomes for new programs or identifying creative funding solutions to meet agency needs.

Qualifications
36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in public budgeting or finance.

  • Or completion of undergraduate major core program in public or business administration, public policy, finance, economics, resource management or related area; 12 mos. work exp. in public budgeting or finance.

  • Or completion of graduate major core program in public or business administration, public policy, finance, economics, resource management or related area.

  • Or 12 mos. as Budget/Management Analyst 1, 63221.

  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Teleworking:

Subject to OBM’s teleworking policy and an approved teleworking agreement, this position is eligible to work from a remote location on a hybrid basis. The selected applicant may be required to complete initial trainings prior to being eligible to telework. All requests to telework are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by OBM’s Director of Human Resources and management, subject to the conditions outlined in the agency policy and teleworking agreement.
