Reporting to the Director of Online Learning, the Online Learning Support Specialist provides technical support and training to faculty, staff and students for the learning management system (LMS) and integrated software and assists with LMS administration.
Provides technical support for the LMS to faculty, staff and students
Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience. Experience with a learning management system. Proficiency with HTML, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace Suite, Windows and Mac OS, and web conferencing software.
Knowledge of learning management systems and ability to quickly learn and apply new procedures, software and platforms, including MAC OS, for training and support purposes. Ability to operate various software packages integrated with the LMS; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; work independently and with discretion; provide training virtually and in-person; lift up to 25 pounds; work on campus and outside normal business hours, when scheduled; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, staff and students. Effective interpersonal skills.Two years of experience in online learning or learning technologies, with an emphasis on training and technical support. Provides technical support for the LMS to faculty, staff and students
- Responds promptly to phone calls and email requests for technical support.
- Serves as liaison between users and the Winthrop IT Help Desk and Blackboard Support.
- Follows up with users until a problem is resolved.
- Coordinates the logging of requested system enhancements with Blackboard Support.
- Provides in-person and virtual training.
- Creates online training videos, documentation and presentations.
- Reviews and updates training resources.
- Creates parent courses, organizations, user accounts, special course enrollments and course copies.
- Maintains special course enrollments.
- Solicits updates and new material from end users, other Blackboard institutions, and the Online Learning Director.
- Makes recommendations for new content.
- Updates the website and removes or archives outdated information.
- Posts and advertises training session offerings on a semester basis.
- Runs and compiles reports as requested.
- Communicates with other departments as needed.
