With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. 

 

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Spartanburg Office, 250 Dewey Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29303.


A Peer Support is a structured and therapeutic activity with an individual patient or group provided by a trained, self -identified consumer of mental health service under the direct supervision of a Mental Health Professional the Peer Support Specialist promotes self-determination, recovery, self -advocacy and self-direction.

Responsibilities of the Mental Health Professional I include but are not limited to:

  •  The PSS will advocate for services by the patient and cultivate the patient's ability to make informed, independent choices, to set goals, and assist the patient in gaining information and support from the community.

  • The Peer support Specialist will partcipatate in the treatment team meetings with the patient to promote the goal planning and encouraging the development of patient's treatment plan.




State Minimum Requirements:
A HS diploma and relevant human services or social service s experience.  A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required experience.
Agency Minimum Requirements:
A HS diploma and relevant human services or social service s experience.  A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required experience.Be a current or former consumer of mental health services, plus have one-year participation in local or national consumer movement or demonstrate recover expertise.


Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
