Job Overview:
The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is seeking applicants for a Regional Medical Director for the East Tennessee Region. The East Tennessee Region includes 15 counties surrounding Knox County and 15 rural health departments. Applicants should desire to be a clinical leader dedicated to improving the health of Tennesseans. TDH has facilities in all 95 counties and Community Health Services division provides direct medical services for more than one in five Tennesseans. Unique among state departments of health, Tennessee also offers primary care services to the under and uninsured along with traditional public health services.
The Regional Medical Director will provide professional leadership to all staff, lead quality improvement initiatives, communicate procedures and policies, written and verbally, and actively participate in professional workgroups and committees. They will be part of a team of six other Regional Medical Directors from across the state and report directly to the Medical Director of Community Health Services. Regionally they will partner with a dynamic and innovative team including the Regional Director, the Primary Care Director, Regional Nursing Director and Regional Quality Director to lead all clinical activities.
The Regional Medical Director will be responsible for oversight of physicans and nurse practitioners providing Reproductive Health Care Services for Women. They will also lead the delivery of primary care services provided at 15 county health departments. The incumbent will ensure compliance with policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and best practice guidance.
The Regional Medical Director will provide direction and guidance to clinical providers and ensure appropriate orientation to public health practices. Along with the Primary Care Coordinator, they will be responsible for assuring ongoing professional development and assure quality care is delivered by all clinicians. The Regional Medical directly supervises the Regional Nursing Director, the CEDS director, the Primary Care Director and Coordinator and physicians providing care in HIV and TB clinics.
The Regional Medical Director will oversee the regional response to communicable and infectious disease reports as directed by TDH Communicable Disease section. This includes communication to the community mambers and officials and with other providers within the region on these matters. In addition, he/she will be responsible for ensuring the Child Fatality Review process is conducted as mandated by legislation in their assigned districts.
Required Qualifications
The Regional Medical Director must have completed a graduate medical education program and hold either a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree, have been board certified in their specialty, and maintain a valid license to practice medicine in the state of Tennessee.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading clinical teams and both quality and process improvement initiatives. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with the community as a public health officer. A Masters in Public Health or similar degree or an understanding of communicable diseases and public health mitigation and prevention efforts.
