The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist III positions in the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on the job level offered within the series.
Principal Duties
- Evaluate field investigation work plans and reports.
- Evaluate groundwater sampling and monitoring data.
- Evaluate corrective action work plans and reports.
- Evaluate remedial activities for closure and post closure.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years experience in Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) corrective action. A PG/PE is not required, but having a PG/PE or the ability to achieve a PG/PE is preferred. Experience with site characterization of various media (soil, groundwater, air) and multiple chemicals (organic and inorganic); sampling experience; selection of and evaluation of the efficacy of corrective measures and remedial alternatives; evaluating groundwater data and assessment, groundwater plumes, and trends; and closure and post closure.
Preferences Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- BS in science-related field
- OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and paid professional employment directly related to the above tasks
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, preferred but not required
- PG preferred but not required
Job Series The selected candidate for this position may be brought in as an Environmental Scientist I with a salary range of $23.93 - $35.94, an Environmental Scientist II with a salary range of $28.16 - $42.30 per hour, or an Environmental Scientist III with a salary range of $33.14 - $49.79 per hour.
Work Location This position may be eligible for an in-office, remote or hybrid/flexible work schedule after an
initial training period or several weeks of in-office training. Our office is located 195 North 1950 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. A position's eligibility for remote work is established by agency management and is subject to change at their discretion at any time and for any reason. Note: As of July 1, 2021, under Administrative Rule R13-4 all work must be performed within the State of Utah. As such employees should either reside in Utah or be in the process of relocating to within 30 days of their start date.
