JJYS Supervisor
Principal Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of Juvenile Justice Services Youth Development Associates, Youth Development Specialists and Technicians in providing counseling and treatment services for severely behaviorally disordered youth.
- Provide security, supervision and control of delinquent adolescents.
- Provide directions to ensure that adequate standards of conduct, health, safety, housekeeping and recreation are maintained.
- Supervise subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
- Oversee the schedule of the unit, approve staff time off, and approve timesheets.
- Writes or drafts correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials.
- Use non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
- Lead the work of others by monitoring, reviewing, training and delegating.
- Adhere to standards of care and supervision for traumatized youth.
- Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing.
- Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally.
The ideal candidate has eight years of full-time experience in working with troubled youth or a combination of education in a related field and work experience with troubled youth that equals eight years.
Supplemental Information
- May be required to provide 24 hour on call services.
- Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. working at great heights, working in extreme outdoor weather conditions, being subject to possible physical attack, etc.
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
- DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers.
