What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant (Paralegal) - Return Utah position at State of Utah?
The Legal Assistant (Paralegal) in this position is a full-time employee and performs writing and proofreading tasks with review and supervision by an attorney or supervisor. The Legal Assistant/Paralegal has high level writing and proofreading skills and a basic knowledge of the work done at the Public Service Commission through education, training, or work experience. Skill levels are not required to be well developed through actual practice or work experience as a legal assistant. The Legal Assistant/Paralegal will perform the following tasks:
- Participates in legal research and helps draft and proofread notices, letters and orders.
- Answers questions from the public.
- Reviews dockets and retains document control.
- Tracks deadlines and time frames.
- Maintains the Public Service Commission document and docket integrity.
- Provides proper public notice of all events, and searches and maintains both public and private records in compliance with Utah’s public records laws.
- Writes and proofreads notices, letters, and orders.
- Searches, maintains, retrieves, and researches public and private records in accordance with applicable laws governing access to these records.
- Streams public meetings and hearings for public internet access in accordance with applicable laws governing access to those meetings and hearings.
Preference
Preference may be given to candidates who:
- Are qualified as a Certified Legal Assistant or Certified Paralegal.
- Have a 4-year college degree or higher.
- Have work experience in the public utility regulation or the utility industry.
- Have advanced technical writing skills.
- Has a Certificate in Paralegal Studies or Equivalent.
This is a full time, intent-to-hire Return Utah opportunity. Upon
completion of the program, based on performance, participants may receive an offer of
employment.
