Overview
The Agency of Transportation is seeking an Intern Maintenance Worker for a position in the Enosburg garage in District 8.
This is a unique opportunity to learn and receive training in the field of highway equipment maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to : repair / maintenance of trucks and equipment, assisting with snow and ice control, guardrail installation, patching potholes, and cleaning the roadside.
These positions are open to students between the ages of 16 to 18 years old that are actively pursuing a high school diploma or equivalent.
The work schedules offer flexibility, with the ideal candidate being able to work full shifts on school breaks and / or as their school schedule allows.

This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental Factors
Duties require working in extreme outdoor weather conditions. Employees may be required to report to work outside of their work schedule and if so must be reachable by phone.
Dangers are present when work is performed near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and roadside litter. Employees may be exposed to blood and airborne pathogens.
Hazards are always present when working on the roads as traffic passes. An incumbent must be able to use tools and equipment commonly used in routine maintenance work as well as lift materials commonly used in routine maintenance work.
Overtime work may be required, particularly during the winter months.
Minimum Qualifications
Incumbents shall be actively pursuing a high school diploma or equivalent.
Special Requirements
An incumbent must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation.
