Job Title:
Social Service Specialist 4 (SSS4)
Location: Omak, WA
Closes: 5/21/24
Salary: $5,615 - $7,552 Monthly. This position will receive 10% assignment pay. This is in addition to the regular base salary; the required duties include performing visits in unregulated environments, such as private residences, to conduct investigations for allegations of abuse and/or neglect to assess the safety of vulnerable children.

The Opportunity:
In this role, you will provide mentorship, on-the-job training, and assistance in the transition of staff from a formal training program to fieldwork. This position assigns work, conducts case reviews, and establishes procedures for efficient workflow. In the absence of the unit supervisor, this position will facilitate meetings and make decisions regarding case staffing.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring, feedback, coaching, and consultation to the staff.
  • May carry CPS, CFWS, FVS, FRS, or adoptions cases including interviewing children, family members, and collateral sources to determine the facts of the case.
  • Assign work, review work efficiency, use data to identify trends, and review case actions for accuracy and policy compliance.
  • Report on employee strengths and opportunities to their direct supervisor.
  • Serve as lead worker assigned the most complex cases.
  • Provide coverage of assigned caseloads in the absence of a Social Service Specialist.
  • Prepare and provide testimony at administrative hearings, court proceedings, criminal, civil, and other administrative proceedings.
  • Document case activities, maintain case records, and initiate payments within FamLink.

What we're looking for (Required Qualifications):
  • One year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3.

    OR

  • A Master’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences or Master’s degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline and two years of paid social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 3.
  • A two-year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum may be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.

    OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences OR with 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline and three years of experience as a Social Service Specialist 3.

  • Paid Social Service experience which must include assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in multiple program areas: CPS, CFWS, FVS, FRS, adoptions, etc.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to diffuse sometimes hostile situations and make decisions regarding personal safety.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to evaluate a crisis situation and/or complex case issues to avoid potential liability and negative outcomes.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to determine whether a reported allegation meets the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) definition for abuse, exploitation, or neglect.

Incumbent must hold a valid driver’s license when operating a state or privately owned vehicle on official state business.

The incumbent must successfully complete formal training courses as required by law, policy, and regional requirements within one year of their appointment.
