Direct Care Provider Lead - Attendant Counselor 3

Our Direct Care Providers assist clients with developmental disabilities in a community setting. These essential positions provide paid training, excellent benefits, and the ability to make a difference and transform someone’s life!

State-Operated Living Alternatives (SOLA) within the Developmental Disabilities Administration has an opportunity for a Direct Care Provider Lead. In this role, you'll be a shift charge and take lead in providing care for clients with Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities who may exhibit challenging behaviors. If you are ready to develop your leadership skills and face new challenges as part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team, this is the job for you.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Evening and Night shifts include a shift differential in addition to the standard compensation rate.

  • Give verbal and written feedback/coaching
  • Monitor staff and ensure that care is provided according to each care plan
  • Ensure care issues, environmental and other pertinent information is communicated timely and to appropriate people
  • Provide specialized care, support, and training
  • Function as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Implement individualized behavior support plans
  • Transport, accompany, and supervise clients during various community activities including medical appointments
  • Ensure the health and safety of the clients at home and in the community
  • Observe, document, and report changes in physical/mental condition or unusual behaviors

To Start On Your New Career, We Ask That You Have:
Knowledge:

Professionals with a high school diploma or GED and two years of experience working with clients with intellectual disabilities within:

  • Mental Health facilities
  • Nursing homes
  • Hospitals
  • Residential setting

OR

Two years of experience as an Attendant Counselor 1, equivalent or higher-level state class

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with intellectual disabilities is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Promote and maintain a positive reinforcing environment
  • Positive Leadership Skills
  • Ability to work with residents who exhibit challenging behavior; with a dual diagnosis or developmental disability and mental illness; with community protection issues; and with health issues
  • Staff who are ready to develop new leadership skills and face new challenges
  • A valuable contributing member of a team with a voice that is appreciated and respected
  • Strong work ethic, with a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated understanding and competence in all aspects of Therapeutic Options training in daily work assignments
