DSHS WSH Investigator 4

Then you are the person we are looking for. Bring your talent to the Department of Social and Health Services to join our team as an Investigator 4 at Western State Hospital located in Lakewood, WA.

We are looking for a team-member who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can provide expert guidance and consultation to top-level managers, agency investigative teams, legal counsel and public and private entities. These investigations are the most visible, often high profile, with potential of political implications, litigation and media attention. You will be responsible for developing curriculum, training programs and intranet site materials related to investigation processes. As an Investigator 4 you will conduct/lead investigations at Western State Hospital.

Here's some of what you'll be doing:


  • Leads and supervises Level 1 and 2 Investigators
  • Assign and directs work of other Investigators
  • Review and authorizes final investigative reports
  • Ensures fair, thorough and timely investigation related to media coverage, high profile incidents that rise to the attention of the Governor, DSHS Secretary and/or Assistant Secretary and/or the Director of State Hospitals
  • Develops policies and procedures controls and administrative systems pertaining to investigative activities and issues appropriate directives, memorandums and correspondence to top-level executive leaders, managers, and supervisors.
  • Plans and directs the implementation of new methods, revised techniques, policies and procedures to be utilized by investigations and supervisors/managers hospital-wide, across three shifts
  • Provides consultation and guidance to the Appointing Authority/CEO and the Executive Leadership Team
  • Provides dispositions and court testimony related to outcomes of investigations (litigation and/or tort claims) and works closely with local law enforcement, Washington State Patrol (WSP), the Office of the Attorney General, prosecuting attorneys and the Department of Social & Health Services
  • Participates as appropriate in representing WSH in various appeals processes
What we're looking for:
  • Strong skills in communication and interviewing techniques
  • Ability to gather, preserve and present relevant and pertinent evidence without arising undue or undesirable comment among employees, supervisors, or top-level managers
  • Interpret and apply federal and state statures, applicable regulations, policies and procedures
Who should apply?
Professionals with four years of experience as an Investigator within State services, at least one year of which must have been as a supervisor

OR
Six years’ experience as an Investigator with a criminal justice agency or criminal investigative agency of the armed forces, or investigating personal backgrounds, unfair and deceptive business practices, insurance casualty claims or other directly allied field (four years of which must include field experience)

OR

College-level course work with major emphasis in one of the criminal justice disciplines, business administration, public administration, law, or directly allied field may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of college work for one year of experience, for all but the required four years of field experience

Equivalent education/experience.
