The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic 3 to play a crucial role in ensuring safe and reliable transportation infrastructure across Washington State. Responsibilities include overseeing paperwork, materials acquisition, and job safety within designated work parameters. The selected candidate will perform skilled and semi-skilled work in mechanical and electrical repairs, as well as building retrofits and repairs, contributing to the upkeep of vital transportation facilities. What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Mechanic 3 will:
  • Inspect, test, and perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems, fire systems, and building interior and exterior systems.
  • Install and maintain door hardware, including locksets, cores, panic hardware, and auto door closures.
  • Repair and maintain rolling and manual gates and fences.
  • Inspect and maintain plumbing piping, fixtures, and related mechanical devices.
  • Maintain mechanical systems such as compressed air, refrigeration, and motorized equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain heating systems and related components.
  • Conduct checks on equipment, change filters, clean equipment, and document discrepancies.
  • Operate a service vehicle to visit multiple work sites and transport necessary tools.
  • Receive and complete service requests, communicating with supervisors and customers.
  • Follow purchasing guidelines to obtain parts and supplies, update inventory systems, and maintain work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • High School diploma or GED. 
  • Valid Driver’s License. 
  • Two (2) years of experience in commercial building maintenance or construction trade. 
  • Ability to work in hazardous conditions, loud noises, heat, cold, high-voltage electricity, elevations, confined spaces, and trenches. 
  • Ability to operate and work a motor vehicle, scissor lift, forklifts, and man lifts. 
  • Ability to work from a ladder over 10 feet. 
  • Ability to transport 50 lbs. regularly and over 50 lbs. rarely, usually with mechanical or other assistance.
  • Ability to work additional hours for scheduled or unscheduled overtime, be on standby, or be called in for emergency situations as per the business needs. 

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have the following:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Building Operator Certification level one. 
  • Ability to evaluate conditions of the building envelope, environmental and automation systems, and equipment. 
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and plans. 
  • Ability to determine proper PPE requirements for any given activity and use it consistently.
 
Important Notes 
  • This recruitment may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs. 
  • The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 10% premium for MM3 positions located in Shoreline, WA, King County. 
  • The salary listed includes the legislative-approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
  • This position is not eligible for remote work.
  • The standard business hours are from Tuesday to Friday, with a total of 40 hours per week. However, the employee may be required to work additional hours for scheduled or unscheduled overtime, be on standby, or be called in for emergency situations as per the business needs. 
  • This role involves occasional overnight travel. 
  • WSDOT does not use the E-Verify system; therefore, we are not eligible to extend STEM Optional Practical Training (OPT). For more information, please visit www.uscis.gov.
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
