About the opportunity: This position serves as a project manager for the Project Management Office (PMO). The PMO is an integral part of WaTech, assuring that business and IT projects are successful and support the WaTech mission of advancing Washington’s technology strategies and services. As an IT Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all parties involved have a clear understanding of the project's objectives. You will assign responsibilities and tasks to project team members, identify and allocate the necessary resources, develop schedules to guarantee timely project completion, and communicate project status updates to key interested parties.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Some of what you can expect: Collaborate with management, senior project managers, and key interested parties to clarify and document the project scope, goals, deliverables, risks, issues, and methodologies that support business objectives.Manage project issues, risks, and decisions effectively.Recognize significant changes before there is an impact to schedule, scope, and budget.Develop an integrated schedule to ensure timely project completion, assigning roles, responsibilities, and tasks to team members.Identify critical skills needed for project success; work with resource managers and vendors to assemble and align project teams.Actively manage risks and develop mitigation strategies.Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools. Track project milestones/sprints and deliverables.Identify, document, monitor, and resolve project changes, risks, issues, and quality throughout the lifecycle of the project.Estimate the resources and skills needed to achieve project goals. Monitor the project to ensure it remains within scope, schedule, and budget, providing recommendations when changes are necessary. Here is what we are looking for: Bachelor’s or higher degree involving a major study in information system technology, business, public administration, or allied field. (Additional years of experience can substitute for the degree).Five years of experience as a project manager with small to medium projects in IT infrastructure, enterprise applications, systems maintenance, telecommunications, or enterprise network projects using proven project management processes, tools, and techniques.Formal project management coursework such as UW PM certification or similar training.Proficiency in project leadership skills, demonstrated by lead project management experience and/or education, including all aspects of process development and execution.In-depth understanding of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) framework, concepts, and principles. This includes project risk management, constraint management, project scope management, and program/project management lifecycle.Demonstrated record of successful project management of medium scale, high visibility projects with multiple business and technical interested parties.Strong communication skills and experience documenting and communicating project management program objectives, customer needs and management expectations.Experience in educating, fact-finding, influencing, negotiating, collaborating, and summarizing to/for customers with the ability to actively listen and interact effectively across a broad spectrum of managerial, administrative, and technical staff.Experience in Microsoft Office tools (MS Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Visio and SharePoint. Expert level experience with Microsoft Project Server/Project Online (POL)to coach staff/peers. Preference shall be given to those who possess the following certification(s): Master’s or higher degree involving a major study in information system technology, business, public administration, computer science, project management or related field.Three years of experience managing professional technology staff within state government or in a related field in private industry.Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.Knowledge of information technology environments, e.g.: cloud, virtual, physical infrastructure, enterprise applications development/implementation, software systems, telephony, networks, storage. Telework: This position is approved for telework.
