What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Instructor position at STEAM Imagine?
**STEAM Imagine seeks to fill the following position contingent upon contract award in April 2024.
Program Instructor, STARBASE Academy Columbus, MS
(Two full-time positions available)
The Program Instructor shall be able to organize and manage classrooms; provide classroom instruction; maintain records and files; and organize, manage and prepare classes in all areas of the STARBASE curriculum for instructors and students. They shall also be responsible for assisting the Director with the operations, management, development and implementation of the STARBASE Academy. Instructors report to the Director.
Qualifications:
The Program Instructors shall meet the criteria as followed:
a. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education, counseling, or psychology with five (5) years of experience in classroom teaching/education
b. Must pass the security and background checks for working on a DOD facility and working with children within thirty days of being hired. No interaction with children shall be authorized until a background check is complete.
The Program Instructors shall possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
a. Knowledge of internet-based tools as well as PTC Creo Software and Microsoft Office products
b. Ability to recognize and implement effective teaching practices and classroom management skills
c. Ability and willingness to engage in quality communication and effective relationships with military and civilian personnel, district school teachers, students, parents, and volunteers
d. Represent the program at initial training, and annual training conferences as required per OASD/M&RA. Typically, one week in length and within the Continental United States
e. Maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid certification
Responsibilities:
Classroom Responsibilities of the Program Instructor shall include the following:
a. Prepare materials, lesson scripts, classrooms, and activities for instruction utilizing computer and classroom smart technology for lessons where appropriate, save backups to external hard drives
b. Provide instruction in all areas of STARBASE curriculum for instructors and students
c. Work as a team with other instructors to prepare lessons, daily class schedules, and instruction in the classrooms
d. Identify participating individual students’ needs, and provide appropriate intervention and accommodation to help ensure success in program completion
e. Assist in developing new curriculum lessons, which are correlated with state and national objectives, to submit to STARBASE OASD/M&RA curriculum committee for consideration
f. Conduct and evaluate all pre/post tests
g. Assist visiting Instructors who participate in STARBASE
h. Participate in graduation ceremonies
i. Serve as mentor to visiting Instructors
Program Instructor Clerical Duties:
a. Collect pertinent data necessary to evaluate program effectiveness
b. Maintain student workbooks
c. Assist in maintenance of scrapbook of photos, press releases, announcements, and other pertinent materials documenting program progression and success
d. Select and prepare requests for appropriate materials for purchase
e. Assist in verifying material shipments, updating material inventories, and putting away supplies
Program Instructor Other Duties:
a. Classroom, small break room and office maintenance and cleaning
b. Assist in all other duties or activities deemed necessary by the STARBASE Director for mission success
The Science and Technology Academies Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration (STARBASE) program is funded by the Department of Defense (DOD). In support of this program, STARBASE academies have been established in eight Air Force, 4 Air Force Reserve, and 35 Air National Guard locations. STARBASE outreach academies serve local community youth by offering students (primarily 5th grades) an opportunity to participate in a variety of learning experiences designed to increase interest in and knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by exposing them to the technological environment and positive role models found on military bases and installations.
