Job Posting for Metallurgical Service Engineer at Steel Dynamics, Inc.
Overview
The Metallurgical Service Engineer is based in Butler, IN and is responsible for providing customer support and investigating defective or problematic material at customer facilities. This position works collaboratively with mill metallurgists, supervisors, and managers throughout the various mill departments to resolve customer issues, complete corrective actions, and implement product improvement projects. Persons in this position must be able to work safely at all locations visited and effectively cooperate with team members in the hot mill, cold mill, external processors, and customer facilities.
Responsibilities
Promote and maintain a safe work environment
Visit customer locations to investigate suspect or rejected material
Provide disposition on current claims in their geographic area
Work with the customer if they decide to rework or retain material
Assist in continuous improvement efforts at customer facilities when supplied material is being processed
Develop and implement corrective and preventative actions related to claims or other material problems
Provide technical assistance to operations for product and process improvement
Provide technical support to customers and the sales team
Assist with other activities as required, such as data analysis, product development, process improvement, ISO/IATF compliance, etc.
Qualifications
B.S. degree in metallurgy, material science or other related engineering field
Travel requirements-it is necessary to travel to end customers, processors, and other facilities in your assigned geographic region. This is often able to be done with "day trips" but will require occasional overnight stays
Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills
Professional computer skills, including data analytics
Experience in steel industry and/or other heavy manufacturing (preferred)
Must be authorized to work in the United States
